Exciting Amazon Rainforest Program for groups of 2 to 5 students combines 4 hours daily of Spanish lessons with an unforgettable Eco tour in a jungle setting to outstanding locations in the Ecuadorian rainforest.

This one-week program includes lodging and daily excursions with teacher and native guides. Students who participate help to create indigenous employment and help preserve the rainforest.

The Amazon ecosystem is one of the richest and most complex plant and animal habitats in the world. The Ecuadorian Amazon covers an area of a 120,000 km of the most exotic vegetation of the tropical rainforest. The Andes mountain range is the western border of these regions, while Peru and Colombia make the southern and eastern borders. The average temperature is 26ºC (79º F).

This course usually starts on Saturday and ends on Friday of the following week. Lodging is in cabins constructed in wood, bamboo and straw with a natural look, special diets available for vegetarians. Attending this program you receive four hours daily instruction in a small group setting -5 students maximum- under the direction of a qualified teacher.

This also includes a daily excursion, such as visit to a native community, gold panning, walks through the jungle, learning about plants used for medical purposes, even swinging on vines, similar to Tarzan, and swimming in fresh and crystal clear water of incredible waterfalls.

EXCURSIONS (schedule may change depending on weather conditions)

First Day:

After settling into the cabins, you begin with a short walk around the location in order to learn about the uses and medicinal properties of plants of the indigenous people. The group returns to the cabins to have dinner and then enjoy a delicious welcome drink of cane liquor and guayusa.

Second Day:

After breakfast, the group undertakes a full morning excursion lasting approximately four hours. It begins by walking along the river bed of a small river until arriving at the first waterfall, where you can swim and enjoy nature. Then you climb this waterfall and continue walking and climbing until you reach five beautiful, powerful waterfalls, each one different and awe-inspiring. The return trip is made through the mountains, where you can view a primary forest, with trees over a thousand years old. You can also practise balancing and swinging on vines like Tarzan!

Third Day:

The group begins a 4 km walk to a lagoon in the heart of the jungle, where you can swim and enjoy the natural ambience of a spectacular landscape. The return trip is made by canoe (life jackets provided) or inner tube, 20-30 minutes of rafting until arriving at the cabins called Shangrila.

Fourth Day:

Upon waking in paradise and leaving your cabin, you discover a large wondrous panorama, for the cabins are situated on a steep bank. Around the Anzú River , on a clear day you can see volcanoes such as Sangay, Altar, and even eruptions from Tungurahua and Cerro Hermoso. After breakfast, the group begins another 4 hour excursion to some canyons in the jungle. Here you can observe parrots, butterflies, bats, migratory birds and insects as well as many wildflowers.

Fifth Day:

You leave the cabins and a van takes you on a 15 km drive to an upper tributary of the Anzú River, where you begin a thrilling rafting trip down rapids. There are also peaceful sections where you can swim and relax while floating down the river. Afterwards, you will visit an indigenous community, where you will learn about the life and traditions of the people. You can see a local family's hut where they will show you how to prepare chicha, a traditional drink made with yucca by natural fermentation. Then you continue rafting downriver until arriving at the riverbank beneath your cabins.

Sixth Day:

After breakfast, you go for a nice walk to a spot where you have a marvelous view and can enjoy nature. Then you continue until having reached the river, where it is possible to learn techniques of gold panning have a refreshing swim or just relax.

After lunch the group visits a Botanical Garden, returning to the cabins around 3:00 or 4:00 pm. At night, there is a farewell dinner with traditional music.

Seventh Day:

Breakfast and return to Quito , group's arrival around 4:00pm.
